
Joe H. “Pat” Patton, Jr., M.D., is the System Medical Director of Surgical Services for Henry Ford Health. He is the former Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery, Division Head of Acute Care Surgery and Director of Trauma and Associate Chief Medical Officer of Henry Ford Hospital. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Louisville School of Medicine; he completed his general surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital and his Trauma/Critical Care fellowship from the University of Tennessee, Memphis. Dr. Patton is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and past Chair of the Michigan Committee on Trauma (COT), and a current member of the Central COT. He has completed an AHA/NPSF Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship and leads Henry Ford’s surgical quality initiatives and was the Surgeon Champion of ACS-NSQIP for more than a decade. He was a contributing author to the “Red Book” and is a reviewer for the ACS-QVP. His current duties include oversight of the health system’s 13 hospital’s Surgical Services strategic, operational and quality initiatives.
