Jim Churchman
Vice President Procurement and Supply Chain

Jim Churchman joined Duke in January 2021. As vice president for Supply Chain Management, Churchman is responsible for leveraging Duke’s enterprise supplier relationships and technologies to balance the interests of both the University and Health System communities. Churchman’s leadership responsibilities include all strategic sourcing activities, purchasing, supplier diversity and supply chain ERP related functions, as well as supply chain’s clinically integrated value analysis process. 

From a supply chain operations perspective, Churchman has leadership responsibilities for the distribution and logistics network spanning the University and more than 850 points of care locations across the health system, including linen operations and emergency inventory management (PPE). Churchman serves as the primary executive sponsor for Duke’s group purchasing organization and related aggregation group relationships. 

Churchman has over 38 years of progressive experience, including 15 years in healthcare/ academic supply chain leadership. Before coming to Duke, he served as vice president for Supply Chain at MedStar Health, Inc. Prior to that, he was vice president for Supply Chain Site Operations & Logistics at Advocate Health Care in Illinois. Churchman has had a diverse array of supply chain experiences in other industries, including international responsibilities in both Canada and Taiwan (automotive / manufacturing / telecom / electronics) before his time in healthcare and higher education. 

Churchman holds a bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, as well as an MBA from the Rockhurst University Executive Fellow Program. In addition, Churchman is certified in purchasing law and is also a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
