Sue Walters is the system strategic contract manager for Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis, MN, a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center. In her current role, Walters is responsible for Strategic Sourcing, Procurement and Contracting of all Supply Expense, which includes, Medical - Surgical patient care supplies, lab, physician preference supplies and implants. In this role, she develops and implements best practice opportunities to reduce cost and collaborates with the clinical teams to maintain/improve patient outcomes.

Prior to joining Hennepin Healthcare, Walters began her career as a nurse specializing in surgical services. She then developed an interest in working with several medical manufacturing companies providing clinical support, customer support and education with the national and international sales team.  

These combined experiences provided insights on how to strategize and implement cost savings and drive out waste. Supply chain management was the natural next step and she began working in Supply Chain at Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis as a Clinical Project Manager, responsible for product selection, new product entry and Value Analysis facilitator.  

Walters earned her nursing degree at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.
