Mary Larsen, M.S. is currently an independent advisor to healthcare systems, and a technical assistance provider, on establishing environmental, social and governance frameworks and supply chain solutions for making more intelligent purchasing decisions aligned with their environmental and social impact goals.

Larsen’s extensive experience in healthcare administration includes nearly 30 years of leadership in enterprise-wide supplier diversity, supply chain and support operations. She directed the Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) system’s environmental sustainability initiatives for over a decade, driving sustainable operations, green building and environmentally preferable purchasing best practices, community partnerships and AAH team member engagement. 

Under Larsen’s leadership, Advocate was one of the founders of the Healthier Hospitals Initiative that created a sustainable operations playbook that continues to serve the U.S hospital sector in sustaining a culture of conservation, reducing energy and waste costs, selecting safer and less-toxic products, and purchasing healthier, sustainable foods. 

During her tenure, Advocate Aurora Health became an inaugural signatory of Healthcare Anchor Network’s Impact Purchasing Commitment, was named a recipient of Practice Greenhealth’s System for Change Award for 12 consecutive years, and made a commitment to achieving 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030. 

Larsen holds a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in Accounting and a master’s degree in Public Administration from DePaul University.
