The unsustainable current status of the U.S. healthcare system is driving transformation toward value-based care (VBC). Current value analysis practices at provider organizations that were designed to optimize care in a fee-for-service environment may not be ready for VBC. VBC has little tolerance for unnecessary variations in care practices or delivery models, since these variations lead to waste and patient safety risks. Thriving under VBC requires reexamining current value analysis practices and preparing for some major changes that, from today’s perspective, may appear unattainable. In this session, we will take a step back and imagine what if we could design the ideal value analysis practice under VBC and discuss the changes that provider organizations can start making now to work toward a better path toward value.
